Tucson's bomb squad spent six hours at the Silverbell Inn along I-10 and Silverlake investigating a possible bomb.
Even after six hours police were not sure what they found.
X-rays from the robot indicated an incendiary device of some kind but investigators were not sure what kind.
But the robot determined the device was safe enough to move from the hotel to another location for further investigation.
According to the hotel manager, Ress Saha, a person walked into the hotel at 9:30 this morning and told him there may be a bomb outside his front door.
The man called 9-1-1 and according to Saha, police arrived a short time later followed by the bomb squad.
He said the device was wrapped in a white towel and contained what appeared to be tennis balls.
There were 15 to 20 guests in the hotel. They were confined to their rooms for the duration.
One guest said he was served breakfast twice and offered water on more than one occasion.
The investigation continues tonight.
Police have not identified the man who made the 9-1-1 call.
