TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson Police officers have taken over the Fox Theater downtown to raise money for the annual Kids and Cops Christmas event.

It's a battle of the bands.

Several local bands are duking it out for a grand prize of $500. All the money raised tonight will help needy children in our community.

Officers say they have 300 children signed up this year and they have been short almost $10,000 after one of their major donors, Oktoberfest, canceled their event

Now they're desperately trying to make up the shortfall.

"Pretty desperately, our event is just weeks away without money few less kids we'll be able to help this year."

"It just lights up your face when you see these kids come in. See Santa there, see officers there. They're overwhelmed. It really grabs you every year."

If you missed the event, you can still help by buying a T-shirt or by making a donation at www.tpoa.org.
