TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - As recovery and clean up efforts continue in the Philippines, a mass will be held here in downtown Tucson – to pray for the victims and their families.
The mass will take place at St. Augustine Cathedral, on Stone just south of Broadway, at 6:30 p.m. today.
Bishop Gerald Kicanas will preside over the mass, plus a number of Filipino priests from the area will also take part in it.
The mass is open to all people of all faiths. Bishop Kicanas stated the mass will offer comfort to the family members and friends and brothers and sisters at the disaster sites.
The Catholic Relief Services plans to send $20 million in relief aid to the county and hopes to help at least 100,000 families. Donations will be collected at the mass and will go to Catholic Relief Services.
For those not able to make the mass this evening, World Care and the Red Cross are still collecting donations for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
