Stores offer Black Friday prices a week early

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Walmart is leading the pack when it comes to Pre-Black Friday sales. The chain has unveiled deals similar to Black Friday on toys and electronics one week early. This year's holiday shopping season seems to be all about the early birds.

It's becoming a new shopping holiday on the calendar this year: Pre-Black Friday sales. For shoppers like Michael DeGruccio, it's like Christmas came early.

"I got a deal and a half!" exclaimed DeGruccio.

One in seven shoppers have already started their holiday shopping, and Degruccio says it beats the usual rush.

"I don't see where the difference is going to be," said Degruccio. "Maybe you'll get a sale on a TV, and they're going to have 10. That ain't no good!"

Local stores have their own reasons for setting out the sales one week ahead of time.

"We can't compete with Best Buys and Walmarts of the worlds and TVs," said David Gubbels, general manager for Golfsmith Xstreme. "But they can save a little bit more now, and then those other big purchases they can focus on on Black Friday."

But some stores are still holding out for the big day.

"Not yet," said John Leidel, general manager for the Best Buy in Myrtle Beach. "We will have everything set up Wednesday."

Some shoppers are glad stores are keeping up Black Friday tradition.

"I love going out on Black Friday and spending all night out," said shopper Alexandria Clark. "It's a great time."

But ask DeGruccio, as he says it's not worth losing sleep.

"Forget about Black Friday," said DeGruccio. "Buy it now, and you're going to save just as much as Black Friday, and not fight with all these crazy people."

While some sales are starting Friday, others are ending. Stores that have had sales since the beginning of November, like HH Greg and Best Buy, are ending this weekend.
