Wondering what to do with leftover turkey grease - recycle it

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

For those who are cooking a Thanksgiving meal or know someone that is a reminder about pouring turkey grease down the drain could cause some major problems.

The main reason pouring the grease directly down the drain is not smart is it can clog up the public sewer system.  According to one report 15 percent of all blocked pipes are due to fats, oils and grease.

Tucson News Now has a unique way to safely get rid of that turkey grease.

Here is one option, the Pima Association of Government Clean Cities Program is hosting a grease collection event, for the day after Thanksgiving.  The group will collect all the leftover grease from the turkey and then eventually turn it into bio-diesel.

The collection event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the day after Thanksgiving (November 29).

There are five collection sites around the city:

East – O'Reilly Chevrolet 6160 E. Broadway Blvd.

Midtown – City Council Ward 3 Office 1510 E. Grant Road

Northwest – Pima County Vocational High School 5025 W. Ina Road.

South – City of Tucson Water Plant #2 1102 W. Irvington Road

Sahuarita – Sahuarita Town Hall 375 W. Sahuarita Way
