TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

It's not quite freezing yet, but there's not much time to prepare.

This is a good time to make sure the pipes outside your house are wrapped up. Basically anything exposed to the element should be covered.

Insulation material and back flow protectors are a hot seller at stores like Naughtons right now.

the first freeze should hit the area before the weekend so you've got a couple days to get out there and make sure your pipes are protected.

"These are really quite inexpensive. You're talking less than five bucks to get a six foot piece of insulation.  You can also use pipe wrap insulation save you a lot of headaches down the road."

Thursday would be a good day to cover up your plants. You can expect to see some frost at night. Nurseries have been selling lots of frost cloths.

At Harlow Gardens on the east side, staff have already started covering up their plants. Citrus plants are especially vulnerable to this cold.

"Make sure it's well hydrated, wrap it with lights put frost cloth over it. Some people put spotlights below it to create a mini environment of warmth around that tree."

At the Salvation Army, it's been a busy night. Beds have been filling up fast, many people knocking on the door in need of donations.  they're asking for blankets, jackets, sweaters, coats, scarves or anything they can give the homeless to stay warm out in this weather.
