COLUMBIA, MO (RNN) - Missouri led the whole game and held on during a last-minute charge by West Virginia, defeating the Mountaineers 80-71 as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

The Tigers (8-0) scored the first nine points of the game and kept West Virginia (6-3) to 22 points in the first half. Mizzou continued to dominate the second half, grabbing a game-high 25-point lead. The Mountaineers attempted a late-game charge and closed the gap to seven points, but the Tigers held on with made free throws from Tony Criswell, Wes Clark and Jabari Brown in the final 30 seconds.

Mizzou outscored West Virginia on field goals (53 percent), 3-pointers (31 percent) and free throws (68 percent). Jordan Clarkson led the Tigers with 25 points and three steals.

The game was part of the 2013 Big 12/SEC Challenge. Before Thursday night's three Big 12/SEC games, the Big 12 held a slight 2-1 lead.

Mizzou will play at home again on Saturday against their first ranked opponent of the season, the No. 18 UCLA Bruins.
