TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

With temperatures expected to be at or below freezing once again in Southern Arizona overnight, Pima County road workers spent Friday spraying 42 bridges with magnesium chloride to prevent ice from forming on them.

Pima County Department of Transportation workers say the magnesium chloride should stay on bridges for about a week if it does not rain.

City of Tucson employees have already sprayed down about 60 bridges within city limits to keep them from getting icy with the same chemical solution.

Authorities remind drivers to slow down during cold temperatures because it can get slippery.

The Pima County Department of Transportation says the cost of spraying down bridges with the chemical solution is allocated in their $20 million annual budget.
