TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson Fire Department responded to a house fire earlier today located in the 3600 block of east 32nd street.

According to Capt. Barrett Baker, several calls were made to 911, reporting that smoke and flames were coming from the house.

The homeowner had stated that the mattress was on fire in a bedroom. Dispatchers advised the family to evacuate immediately.

Firefighters arrived on scene and quickly pulled hose lines through the front door to quickly search the house and extinguish the flames.

The latter crew on scene controlled the utilities for safety reasons and then set up high-powered fans to evacuate residual smoke after the fire was extinguished.

The fire left a family of 12 displaced, including five kids under the age of 16. One member was treated on scene for minor smoke inhalation but did not go to the hospital for further evaluation.

The Red Cross is assisting the family with food, clothing, and shelter.

The fire did start in the bedroom but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
