TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Pima County Justice Court records say Fernando Richter was charged this morning with an assault while in jail.

Richter and his wife, Sophia, were indicted last week for the abuse and imprisonment of Sophia's 12-, 13-, and 17-year-old daughters.

Police say the two younger girls escaped from the family's midtown home last month and ran to a neighbor's house for help.

Investigators say the children had been kept in dungeon-like isolation and confinement for up to two years.

The Richters are scheduled for arraignment in Superior Court on Friday.

The Richters each were originally charged with three counts of kidnapping, child abuse-emotional and child abuse-physical abuse.

Fernando Richter also was charged with sexual abuse with a person under 15 years of age, according to TPD.
