Community food bank down on donations as demand increases

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

December is a critical time for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. Donations have been slow coming in and the demand is increasing around the holidays. The food bank is about $300,000 short in monetary donations.

Right now they are trying to make every dollar stretch. Holiday food boxes almost didn't happen.

CEO of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona Bill Carnegie says, "We had a surplus of funds at the end of our last year fiscal year that the board allowed us to carry over to purchase those holiday items. So we got the best possible prices which made the boxes possible for this holiday season."

The Community Food Bank needs to receive enough donations this month to carry them through the fiscal year.

For every dollar they have they can distribute $9 worth of food. Check out this link to their website for more information on how to donate.
