IN grandfather asks Supreme Court for review of abuse case

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

An Indiana man convicted of child abuse for forcing his grandsons on a grueling hike in the Grand Canyon is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review his case.

The Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals had rejected Christopher Alan Carlson's argument that the evidence was insufficient and that the jury wasn't instructed properly.

Carlson was convicted on three counts of child abuse stemming from a 19-mile hike in August 2011 and sentenced to 27 months in prison.

He acknowledges treating his three grandsons roughly but denies being criminally negligent or endangering them.
