Pima County Superior Court Commissioner vacancy filled

PIMA COUNTY, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A new commissioner has been appointed to the Pima County Superior Court.

Ken Sanders has accepted the appointment as the newest Pima County Superior Court Commissioner, according to a news release from the Pima County Superior Court.

The Presiding Judge of the Superior Court, Sarah R. Simmons, and the Presiding Judge of the Juvenile Court, Karen S. Adam, announced the appointment early Monday morning.

Sanders will fill a vacancy left by the upcoming retirement of Commissioner Margaret Maxwell. He received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Arizona; working as a High School English Teacher from 1993 to 1995 in the Tucson Unified School District.  Sanders was also an associate Attorney from 2000 to 2002 with the law firm of Slutes, Sakrison and Hill in the areas of medical malpractice and insurance defense litigation.

From 2002 to 2005 Sanders was a law clerk for the Honorable David C. Bury at the United States District Court; he also became a partner with the firm of Sanders and Sanders in 2005 and has continued in that position until the present time. In his work with Sanders and Sanders he worked on several family law cases at the Pima County Juvenile Court and also represented criminal defendants in actions for post-conviction relief.

Sanders will begin as Pima County Superior Court Commissioner on March 3, 2014.
