PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Supreme Court is set to hear an appeal of a ruling that blocked a new law raising campaign contribution limits as much as ten-fold.
The court hears arguments Tuesday on the appeal filed by lawyers for Senate President Andy Biggs and House Speaker Andy Tobin. They want the court to uphold the new higher limits and allow them to take effect.
The Arizona Court of Appeals court blocked the law in October after the Arizona Clean Elections Commission argued it conflicted with limits set by a voter-approved law.
The high court will consider whether the voter initiative that created the commission also set contribution limits.
The Commission argues that it did, while the Republican lawmakers who pushed the bill say they were free to change the limits.
