BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

LSU received a much needed commitment on defense Tuesday when Clifton Garrett announced he would be playing for the Tigers in 2014.

247 Sports ranks the 6'2", 228 pound star from Plainfield, IL as a 5-star linebacker.

Garrett, a Rivals 4-star linebacker, is ranked 53rd in the nation and the number one player in the state of Illinois.

Garrett picked LSU over Ole Miss and Tennessee after narrowing his choices down to three schools.

He is expected to get immediate playing time for LSU.
