TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The U.S. Consulate General in Nogales issued the following emergency message in the wake of this morning's deadly shootout in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora:

Security Message for U.S. Citizens:  Gunfire Near Puerto Penasco

The U.S. Consulate General in Nogales alerts U.S. citizens that in the early morning of December 18, there were reports of a gun battle in and around Sandy Beach near Puerto Penasco, Sonora.

In the event of gunfire, take shelter immediately and stay clear of doors and windows. Additionally, you should review your personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news stations for updates.  Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.
