TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson will welcome its first triathlon race in 2014.

The 5430 TriZona Triathlon will debut on Sunday, April 27 at Kennedy Park, consisting of a 750 meter swim, 14.5 mile bike, and a 3.5 mile run.

It will be a USA Triathlon sanctioned event, complete with USAT Officials monitoring safety and rules compliance, according to a news reelease.

There will be a limit of 600 participants in the first year, and registration will open on Jan. 8.

"I'm proud to welcome the TriZona Triathlon to our beautiful, Westside Kennedy Park," said Tucson City Council member Regina Romero. "Tucson is known internationally for our hiking and biking, and now we are adding triathlons to our sports list."
