TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson Police say the shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday; a man was shot multiple times at Freedom Park near 29th and Swan.

A large group of people witnessed the shooting and immediately left the scene, according to TPD reports. Officers caught up with one vehicle and detained two occupants. Detectives with the gang unit were called to the scene, stated a TPD news release.

Tucson Police have released the name of the shooting victim as Marcus Darton.  A woman who identified herself as the victim's mother, said she did not know what her son was doing at the park or why anyone would want to kill him.

"We do have gang detectives out here. We do know one of the people involved, whether it be the victim or one of the other ones we have stopped has gang affiliations," Chris Widmer, Tucson Police Sergeant, said.

Family of the victim said Darton grew up in Tucson and worked at a barber shop.

According to TPD no arrests have been made and anyone with information on the incident is urged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.
