AAA Arizona ‘Tipsy tow' service for Christmas

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

AAA Arizona is offering its ‘Tipsy tow' services for the upcoming Christmas holiday.

For those who indulge in a little too much ‘holiday cheer' AAA's Tipsy tow service will be available from 6 p.m. December 24 through 6 a.m. December 25.

How Tipsy Tow works:

Call 1-800-AAA-HELP (1-800-222-4357) between the 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. deadline; state that a ‘tipsy tow' is needed, then provide the driver's name, home address, phone number and vehicle/driver location.

Tipsy tow provides a free 10 mile tow and ride home for those unable to make it on their own, and who do not have a designated driver.  Mileage beyond the ten mile limit is charged to the motorist at a standard towing rate.  The service does not include roadside assistance.

"The holidays are a time when people tend to overindulge," said Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona, in a recent news release. "As a leader in driver safety, AAA urges drivers to plan for a safe ride home before celebrating. If that ride falls through, call AAA for a Tipsy Tow."

AAA Arizona is also offering the following tips for a safe Christmas holiday:

Be a responsible host:

  • Offer food and non-alcoholic beverages.
  • Make sure all guests have a designated driver.
  • Keep the numbers for local cab companies, as well as AAA's Tipsy Tow, handy.
  • Take the keys away from anyone who is thinking of driving while impaired.

Be a responsible partygoer:

  • If planning to drive, don't drink.
  • If planning to drink, select a designated driver and give them the car keys. If a ride home falls through, call a cab, or use AAA's Tipsy Tow as a transportation alternative.
  • Buckle up — it's the best defense against impaired drivers.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration one alcohol-related death occurs every 45 minutes in the U.S.; with drunk drivers contributing to one in three traffic deaths. AAA challenges drivers to pledge to drive drug and alcohol-free.
