Several people sent to hospital after crash on the westside

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Several people were injured after a multi-car accident earlier this afternoon, near the intersection of Grant and I-10. 

According to Tucson Police officials the road was shut down to clean up salt that was thrown from one of the vehicles in the accident. 

One driver was thrown from their vehicle, and sustained non-life threatening injuries; there several others from a second vehicle with non-life threatening injuries.  All were taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to TPD. 

There were at least two more vehicles involved in the accident, according to TPD reports, but both had minor damage and no injuries were reported. 

TPD has not determined yet what caused the accident.

    According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's office District of Arizona, 48-year-old Michael Alvarez Martinez had previously pleaded guilty to one count of abusive sexual contact of a minor.
