Getting home without getting pulled over means patience on New Year's Eve

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

If you don't have a designated driver for New Year's Eve, see if you can schedule a cab before everyone wants one.

They're not hard to find right now, but after midnight they'll be in high demand.  Call a cab company and see now if they can deliver a cab around the time you want to leave.  But also know there will likely be a wait.

The same goes for tipsy tow, the service offered for free tonight by AAA.  Call 1-800-AAA-HELP and they'll send a tow truck to drive you, a passenger, and your car home for free up to ten miles.  There could be a wait involved tonight, a half hour to an hour perhaps, but that's better than the alternatives.

"Anyone can do it.  You don't have to be a triple A member, so just keeps everyone safe," said Valerie Vinyard, AAA Arizona spokesperson.

"Designated driver definitely is a good option.  As long as you're not driving drunk, I guarantee you, waiting a little while longer for a taxi and paying for a taxi is way cheaper than a DUI," said K.C. Uber, a driver with Cool Cab Company.

Smartphone apps like Uber increase driver rates as cabs are in more demand but are also presented by the company as more reliable than hailing a cab.
