(RNN) - It's hard to imagine a more compelling year in sports than the one we just had, both in quantity and quality.

One of the most heart-wrenching, inspirational stories of the year turned out to be a digital hoax and at least for a short time looked like it might derail the career of Manti Te'o.

More recently, Auburn did a couple of improbable things in an impossibly short amount of time.

There was no dearth of things to watch and talk about in between. Dennis Rodman the diplomat? Jack Hoffman the star running back? The death of the BCS? The birth of an awesome podcast with a funny name?

Yeah, all that, too. The next 12 months couldn't possibly be this incredible, could they? It's certainly worth hoping they are.
