TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Three people were injured in a head on collision on New Year's Eve, after driver is pulled over by a Pima County Sheriff's Department deputy.
According to a PCSD release, Alfonso Mateo Gutierrez was stopped for possible driving while intoxicated, near Speedway Blvd. and Painted Hills Road. The deputy stated after making initial contact, Gutierrez got back in his truck and sped away – heading eastbound on the westbound side of Speedway.
Gutierrez struck another vehicle, with two females inside, a mile and a half later. The passenger in the car was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries, while the driver of the car and Gutierrez were transported for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Gutierrez was released from the hospital and has been booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center on the following charges: Aggravated driving under the influence; aggravated assault (two counts); criminal damage; fleeing from law enforcement; driving on a suspended license; and at least one outstanding warrant.
