The New Year will allow the public to give their opinion about the Rosemont Copper Mine Project.
January 1 marks the start of a 45-day comment period on the ‘Forest Service Draft Decision'; this decision supports a modified version of Rosemont's proposed open pit mine in the Santa Rita mountains, just south of Tucson.
The draft decision released earlier this month says the alternative plan works best to meet laws and minimize environmental impact.
After the comment period ends, the Forest Service can take several more weeks to assess the public input before releasing a final decision.
