TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

If you look at the flight status boards at the airport, most likely you will see a couple of flights delayed.

You have weather from the North-East playing a role in these delays, but there is also new rules for pilots that take effect this weekend.

Pilots are required to get at least 10 hours of rest between shifts and 8 of those hours are suppose to be uninterrupted sleep.

They also have to have 30 consecutive sleep.

The other part of the rule is that pilots are limited to flying 8 or 9 hours depending on their start time.

Passengers agree safety first.

"On the other hand I don't want to have to wait for an implemented law like that," said Sophia Martinez, airline passenger.

The new rules for pilots don't apply to cargo pilots.

All of the airlines have known about the change for the last two years.
