Byrne: Confident Rich Rod will remain Arizona's head coach

Tucson, AZ (KOLD) - Amidst the flurry of speculation over whether Arizona head football coach Rich Rodriguez may consider leaving the U of A for Louisville,  Wildcat athletic director Greg Byrne tweeted the following this morning:

Coach Rodriguez is doing a great job w/our FB program. We talk regularly & feel good about him being our long term HC.

Sounds a lot like contract extension talk.

Rumors started spreading yesterday when a story was posted by that Cardinals athletic director Tom Jurich had the Arizona head coach on his "short list" of candidates.

A University spokesperson declined to comment on whether or not Louisville had reached out to Arizona and asked permission to speak to Rodriguez.

In two seasons, Rodriguez has compiled a 16-10 record with two bowl wins and three wins over top 25 teams.
