    Last week Border Patrol agents seized more than $1 million in marijuana, as suspects attempted to smuggle it across the border into the U.S. In a recent release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, agents with the Ajo Station, stopped three suspected smuggling attempts on Sept. 11.

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Sharon Bronson was elected to chair the Pima County Board of Supervisors today.

She succeeds Supervisor Ramón Valadez, District 2, who served as chair since 2010. Supervisor Richard Elías, District 5, was elected vice-chair.

Supervisor Bronson represents District 3, which includes all of western Pima County and shares more than 130 miles of international border with Mexico.

Since her election to the Board in November 1996, Bronson has served as member and co-chair of the Board of Directors for Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities, Inc. and is a member of the TREO Chairman's Circle. She is a board member of Visit Tucson, formerly the Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau, and is on the Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee for the National Association of Counties.

She has served as President of the County Supervisors Association of Arizona and President of the U.S./Mexico Border County Coalition.

Bronson earned a business administration/accounting degree from the University of Arizona.
