TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Higher environmental standards for waste discharge into the Santa Cruz River leads to a new reclamation facility in Pima Country.

Since Dec. 16, the Agua Nueva Water Reclamation Facility has received flows from the Roger Road Wastewater Reclamation Facility.

The former Roger Road plant emitted orders along the surface streets of I-10.

While the former plant served Pima County for over 60 years, the Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department will divert the final flows from the old plant at Roger Road to the new facility Wednesday morning.

The Agua Nueva Water Reclamation Facility has an odor control center and all regulatory requirements have been met, according to the Pima County community relations manager.

RWRD director, Jackson Jenkins said the cleanup near Roger Road is expected to take approximately six months.

Regulatory requirements under the Regional Optimization Master Plan will be discussed in the spring.
