A fallen Phoenix police officer was honored Saturday in his hometown of Mesa.
The city named a park for officer Shane Figueroa.
The park, which is called "Figueroa Green," is located near Signal Butte and Ray roads.
Members of the police department and loved ones were there for the dedication ceremony.
"I have mixed emotions," said the officer's mom, Jerilyn Figueroa. "My heart is just full of joy to be here to see the tribute, the testament to his life. He loved serving his community as police officer."
In 2008, Figueroa was in his patrol car responding to a shots fired call when he was hit by a drunken driver.
