Tradition! PCC 'fiddles' with Tucson's cultural heritage

TUCSON (Tucson News Now) - An enduring musical set in early 1900's Russia and southern Arizona will share a common element this February:  heritage.

Pima Community College is inviting the public toparticipate in a project showcasing the cultural depth and diversity ofthe Tucson area.  PCC's first Family Heritage Celebration will usedigital images submitted by the public to compose a visual presentation thatwill be displayed online and shown at PCC's Theatre Arts musical production of"Fiddler on the Roof."

"Fiddler on the Roof" is a family musical set in aJewish village in early 20th century Russia. The story revolvesaround a poor yet devout father of five daughters as he tries to preservehis heritage amid numerous outside forces.

To take part in PCC's Family Heritage Celebration, you can submit one of the following at no cost:

  • A digital photo of your ancestor or ancestors;
  • A digital photo of a family heritage artifact,such as jewelry, clothing, art or household objects;
  • A digital photo of body art related to yourfamily heritage; and
  • A poem or short story related to your familyheritage (less than 250 words and written in the body of the email).

Digital images must be in a high resolution jpeg format nolarger than 10MB.  Submissions must also include submitter's name, name ofindividuals in the photo or artifact and the significance to you, familyancestry (ethnic/cultural heritage, country of origin), and any other relevantinformation.

The kick-off for PCC's Family Heritage Celebration isscheduled for February 20, 2014, at PCC Center for the ArtsRecital Hall, West Campus, 2202 W. Anklam Road, 6-7:15 p.m.
