MECHANICSVILLE, VA (WWBT) -

The death of Ashland native, Meg Menzies, rocked the small community in Hanover on Monday and now a message of awareness is spreading around the world

"As of this morning over 80 thousand people wanting to show their support for Meg, her family, her children, and husband. It's just a terrible situation," says friend, Tom Visotsky.

Runners from all over are banding together showing their support for Meg, including a runner in Madrid, Spain, and another in Viareggio, Italy.

Back state side, a sea of blue, Meg's favorite color, filled the Bell Creek neighborhood as hundreds of runners, walkers, bikers, and joggers took to the streets of Mechanisville.

Coming out in Meg's memory was especially meaningful for Christy Sandefur and her husband Ryan.

"Meg and I were very close she was our cousin and our kids played together, Christmas and Easter they were always together. I know that the kids will continue to be together and we will be there for them and continue to lift them up and just be there for them," Christy Sandefur says.

Though Meg is gone Christy says she will remember her as more than just an avid runner but for the many lives she touched, especially those of her loving family.

"The way that she mothered her kids was just an inspiration to me and she was a great wife to Scott and a wonderful daughter and great cousin."

Members of Meg's training team, the Richmond Road Runners, also held a special ceremony for their fallen team member, writing messages to Meg on balloons and sending them into the air.

All of the proceeds raised at runs throughout the area will be donated to Meg Menzies family to support them during this difficult time.
