TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The first bicycle safety classes of 2014 begin today, and those who sign up get an added bonus for attending.

Class begins at the U of A Mall and Highland at 10 a.m. and there is no fee to attend the one hour session.

This free class is made possible by the Pima County Department of Transportation's Bike and Pedestrian Program.  There is one stipulation – those attending have to bring their own bikes.

Participants will learn how to cycle safely around the U of A campus and the streetcar tracks.  The incentive for taking the class, other than the safety is the freebies.

For those who complete the class they could receive a free bike light set, or a U-lock or helmet.

There are more safety classes scheduled for the remainder of January and into February.  For a complete schedule go online to www.bikeped.pima.gov; to sign up please call 724-BIKE (2453).
