TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A man in Pinal County now faces charges after authorities said he falsely claimed he was shot and his family was held captive.

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office said 23-year-old Alfredo Aurtuno knocked on a woman's door in the 200 block of N. Pepper Place with a gunshot wound and told her his family was being held against their will.

When officials showed up, they said they found Aurtuno had been using drugs and lived alone. Aurtuno also told them he was in the country illegally from Mexico.

After being arrested, authorities said Aurtuno ran out of the police car while in handcuffs and into a salon and reportedly grabbed a cell phone, nail file and a long metal object, according to a news release. A K-9 unit helped catch him because officials said he was possibly armed and refused to surrender. He was booked into the Pinal County Jail and charged with escape, burglary and false reporting.
