It's a beautiful afternoon, and you're outside in the park. Then, a powerful thunderstorm moves in within minutes. There are no nearby structures or buildings for shelter, but your car is nearby so you make a run for it. After all, the tires will protect you from lightning strikes, right?Wrong. It's an idea that was first thought of in the late 1800s, on bicycles. A rubber tire is an insulator, so it is very difficult for it to conduct electricity. The same with rubber-soled shoes. The problem...

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Amphitheater School District is holding its annual ‘Kindness Rally' this week.

This is an annual tradition where fifth graders gather once a year to learn about building peace and being kind.  Ambassadors to the rally include fifth graders from Copper Creek Elementary and 15 students from each district elementary school.  These visiting students will take back to their own schools what they learned at the rally.

According to Amphitheater School District officials the rally is made up of a 90 minute assembly that features the crew from The Be Kind People Project.  They put on an energetic, entertaining and educational program, designed to help students develop good character and positive relationships.

Diana Walker, the Principal for Copper Creek had this to say in a recent release, "We are committed to giving students this opportunity every year.  They always look forward to sharing what they learn with classmates at their home schools.  Students can be the best teachers."

There will be a balloon and dove release after lunch, with each dove representing a different school and each balloon a student.  Students will then gather for an aerial photo.

The rally will take place on Jan. 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Copper Creek Elementary School.
