MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange says all streets are currently open and many streets are being sanded at this hour as wintry weather moves through the area.
Regardless, officials are strongly advising commuters to limit all non-essential driving. Montgomery Public Safety Director says even one of the fire department's fire trucks reported having sliding issues while responding to a scene.
As of 12:45 p.m. the city had responded to more than 30 traffic accidents with about a third of them resulting in minor injuries and a few having to be transported to area hospitals.
Non-essential city services have been closed for Tuesday. The mayor says the status for Wednesday is to be determined.
The city has called in 40 additional police officers and 30 additional firefighters and has activated its emergency operations center.
