TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Arizona Department of Public Safety continued the search for a motorcyclist involved in a severe accident on Interstate 10 Wednesday night.

DPS officials said they are trying to make contact with 43-year-old Antonio Edward Sutherland of Chandler, who was reportedly seen by a witness less than two miles away from the accident an hour after it happened.

Officials blocked off eastbound traffic at the Marana Road exit for several hours, starting around 10 p.m. after authorities said Sutherland's motorcycle rear-ended a sedan and flung him into the road. He was then hit by four more cars, according to a news release.

The drivers involved were not injured.

DPS, Northwest Fire District, Marana Police Department, Pima County Sheriff's Department and the Arizona Department of Transportation aided in the search with the use of thermal imaging technology, "Attempt to locate" bulletins at truck stops and hospitals, and a nearby canal was drained.

The search was put on hold from 3 a.m. to sunrise, around which time the road was reopened.
