TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Pima County Sheriff's Department reminds drivers that speed limit signs are still up, even though photo enforcement cameras are not.

Since the county ended the camera contract earlier this month, transportation officials say there has been a 1,000 percent increase in people driving eleven miles per hour or more over the posted speed limit.

The majority of these occur during morning and evening rush hours.

The department has put in place what it calls "Mission Oriented Policing Projects" to encourage drivers to obey the posted speed limits.
