TEMPE, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Fresh water turtles will soon have their own 'Turtle Shelter' at the SEA LIFE Arizona aquarium in Tempe.
On exhibit will be an ancient snapping turtle, red eared sliders, snake neck turtles and a 'leaf-like matamata. Lining the walls will be educational interactive elements that describe for guests the 200 million year history of these reptiles.
"The Turtle Shelter exhibit is a great opportunity for our guests to explore the lives of these mysterious animals in a really fun environment," stated Hayley Townsend, General Manager of Sea Life in a recent release.
"Freshwater turtles are often kept as pets and released into our local waterways, creating hostile environments for those ecosystems. This display represents a responsible way to admire the turtles and explains conservation messaging on ways to protect them in the wild."
The exhibit is expected to be open in time for spring break, and will be at SEA LIFE Arizona through the rest of 2014.
