TUCSON, AZ - The Arizona baseball team held its annual "Meet the Team Day" Saturday at Hi Corbett Field to the delight of approximately 1,000 fans who cheered on the Wildcats for an eight-inning intrasquad game followed by a postgame autograph session with the players.
The "Red" team defeated the "Blue" squad by a narrow 2-1 margin sparked by Zach Gibbons' inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the third inning. Junior left-hander Tyler Crawford earned the de facto win on the mound "Red" as the starter for the "Red", followed by relief appearances by Evan Hebert and Bobby Dalbec.
"I want to thank our fans for coming out and supporting us," head coach Andy Lopez said. "It's neat to see so many people out here on a day like this. It's good for our guys to get out here and play in front of some people before Feb. 14. The interaction with all the fans, especially the young kids, is what this is all about. We're really fortunate to have such marvelous support here at Hi Corbett."
Arizona opens its season on Friday, Feb. 14, to start a three-game series against Kent State. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. (MST). The Golden Flashes participated in the 2012 College World Series, when Arizona captured its fourth national championship.
