DPS and TPD step up enforcement for Super Bowl Sunday

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Bars all across town are packed with people drinking and having a good time rooting on their team, and several law enforcement agencies are already out in full force looking for drunk drivers.

Tucson police have extra officers patrolling the streets looking for anyone who might be driving under the influence.

Arizona highway patrol officers are also stepping up enforcement for Super Bowl Sunday.

In just a couple minutes Arizona Department of Public Safety officers will be hitting the roads as part of their DUI Saturation Patrol.

They have also brought in extra resources to process suspected drunk drivers so that patrol officers can get back on the streets and patrol.

"If you plan on going out and having a few drinks go ahead and plan ahead and get you a designated driver," said Officer Josh Wilhem, Arizona Department of Public Safety. "Call a taxi cab, there's a lot of precautions you can set up so you don't get caught drinking and driving because if you do get caught or you're impaired, you will go to jail."

AAA of Arizona is offering tipsy tow service tonight to help people get home safely. If you've had too much to drink, you can get a free tow up to 10 miles until six tomorrow morning by calling 1-800-aaa-help.
