State Senate considers Silver Alert legislation

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Arizona lawmakers are voting today on a new type of Amber Alert for missing elderly people.

The bill scheduled for a vote today in the Senate would create a Silver Alert to let TV and radio stations know when an elderly person goes missing.

It will also put that alert on electronic freeway signs.

It would be used for seniors 65 and older who are in possible danger because of their age, disability or mental capacity.

The legislation was prompted in part by the disappearance and death of a Cochise County woman last year.
