Free Star Party in Tucson Saturday, telescopes provided

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Take the family to a FREE Star Party on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Tucson. 

Astronomy magazine is hosting the event at the Pima Community College campus on the Eastside of Tucson, located at 8181 East Irvington Road. 

This 2014 Public Star Party is the second annual all-day skywatching event in Tucson and runs 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Experts will be on-hand discussing astronomy and space observing topics. 

Plus, solar observing telescopes will be set up so you can view the sun safely during the daylight hours. 

Sunset is at 6:04 p.m. on Saturday.  At that time, nighttime observing will begin with telescopes provided for close-up views of the Moon, Jupiter, the Pleiades star cluster, the Orion Nebula, and more.

  • Dave Eicher, Editor, Astronomy magazine
  • Mike Reynolds, Contributing Editor, Astronomy magazine; Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Florida State College at Jacksonville
  • Keith Schlottman, Former President, Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association
