SALT LAKE CITY (KSTU/CNN) - A 21-year-old Brigham Young University student was critically hurt in an avalanche.
The avalanche carried her into a nearby creek in Utah.
Officials say she was submerged and buried under the water and snow for about 25 minutes.
She went into cardiac arrest.
"Medical responded, search and rescue responded. They were able to find the victim after another period of time and she was in pretty bad shape," said Spencer Cannon, Utah County Sheriff's Office. "They did initiate CPR and she's been transported to American Fork hospital where she's being treated right now."
The woman was one of six people in the area snow shoeing when the avalanche happened.
She was the only one hurt.
