TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Internal Revenue Service is trying to make it easier for the public to track their tax return, all via a new and improved smart phone app.

IRS2Go is hoping to make it more convenient for taxpayers to keep track of their returns; the newly redesigned app IRS2Go 4.0 will make it easier for the public to check the status of their returns.

According to the IRS all taxpayers have to do is enter their social security number, which will be masked and encrypted for security purposes.

Another new feature is a tab to click to request tax records; and for those who qualify the app will also help them locate a free tax prep providers near them.  To find the free tax prep they just have to enter their zip code and it will provide the information.

The final upgrade for the new IRS app is a ‘Stay Connected' button that will link them to emails, Twitter and YouTube.

IRS2Go is a free app for those with smart phones and can be found in either the iTunes App Store or the Google Play Store.

The App is available in both English and Spanish.
