Game and Fish: 10th bighorn sheep dies in Santa Catalinas

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Arizona Game and Fish officials said a 10th bighorn sheep died Friday in the Santa Catalina Mountains.

The cause of death is under investigation.

This latest death means 20 sheep are now left in the mountains since they were re-introduced in November.

Officials said seven were killed by predators, mostly mountain lions. One was killed by a bobcat and another died of an illness related to stress.

Officials confirmed the ninth death on Feb. 7. They are discussing how to handle the situation and see if any changes need to be made to the program or the predator management plan they have in place.

Game and Fish officials remind hikers to watch out for trail restrictions around the Catalinas. You can read more about the trail restrictions at http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/coronado/news-events/?cid=STELPRDB5446651
