TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Governor Jan Brewer spent the afternoon in Oro Valley touring a couple of high-tech firms, including Ventana Medical Systems, a leading firm in cancer research.

The governor touted high-tech firms as a growth engine for Arizona, saying high-tech jobs bring high wages.

Ventana has grown from 700 workers to nearly 1,200, which she said is the kind of growth the state hopes will continue.

She said even though high-tech is the driver, she also believes the state should support growth in areas like tourism and hospitality.
