NEW YORK, Feb. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Bringing more than 20 years of experience in equity, fixed income, and multi-asset class research, Barbara Reguero has joined Sidoti & Company, LLC to direct the company's burgeoning micro-cap effort. Ms. Reguero, who held senior management roles at S&P Capital IQ, Nomura Securities, JP Morgan, and Bear Stearns, will oversee and grow the team of Sidoti analysts and salespeople who cover equities in the micro-cap sector.
The long-held view of the firm's founder and CEO, Peter Sidoti - that micro-cap equities (defined as companies with market capitalizations of under $250 million) represent a whole new world of investment opportunity - was initially met with skepticism. Yet, since Mr. Sidoti assigned five of his analysts in January 2010 to follow only micro-cap stocks, this once-neglected sector has steadily gained investors' attention. Now 20 Sidoti analysts provide research coverage of about 220 micro-cap equities, and a sales and marketing team numbering six is also dedicated to the space. Twice yearly Sidoti micro-cap conferences have become "must-attend" events for investors who are eager to learn about names that may be off the Street's radar screen but still hold significant promise. Meanwhile, Sidoti & Company, LLC, now in its 15th year, also continues the robust coverage of small-cap equities that made its name in the investment community.
Stated Mr. Sidoti, "That a professional with the experience Barbara Reguero can boast at bulge-bracket firms has opted to join our firm as head of our micro-cap team speaks volumes about the validity of our efforts."
Ms. Reguero is excited about her new position, saying, "I see the micro-cap arena as higher-risk and higher-reward. The group's volatility increases the value-added that superior research brings to this asset class versus large-cap equities. A stock in the micro-cap group may not correlate with others in the same sector, and investments here cannot be left on autopilot. To top it off, these stocks can change on a dime, so that research must be especially timely and thorough. Sidoti is already known for its powerful micro-cap platform, and I intend to make it bigger, better, and more visible in the years ahead."
Sidoti & Company, LLC micro-cap research is available on major direct access systems, such as Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg, and FactSet, and others will be added.
