HARTVILLE, OH (WOIO) -

An investigation is underway after an explosion in a Hartville neighborhood on Saturday afternoon.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. in a detached garage on Eldorado Circle.

Thomas Cotton, 56, was injured in the explosion, and taken to the hospital. His condition is not known at this time.

Surrounding homes were also damaged in the blast.

The State Fire Marshal tells 19 Action News that while it is early in the investigation, they cannot rule out explosives used to make fireworks as a potential cause.

The cause is officially undetermined as the investigation continues.

The State Fire Marshal is working with the Stark County Sheriff, Summit County Bomb Squad and ATF in the investigation.
