The Chicago Fire defeated FC Tucson on Saturday afternoon by a score of 2-0 in the opening game of Day 2 of Major League Soccer's Desert Diamond Cup.

The Fire dominated the first half of the match and kept constant pressure on the FC Tucson defense. Alex (Monteiro de Lima) scored the first goal of the match for the Fire in the 20th minute after the initial shot was saved.

Bakary Soumare doubled the Fire's lead right before halftime after he hit a volley first time off of a corner from Patrick Nyarko. Frank Yallop decided to use his original starting eleven throughout the whole match and it showed towards the end.

With halftime subs playing guys going into their 70th minute, FC Tucson started to get a little bit more pressure on the Fire toward the end of the match. '

They were a little unlucky to find the back of the net after they squandered a couple of great chances, including a breakaway chance by midfielder Nick Hamer. Hamer shot against Fire goal keeper Sean Johnson went wide right.
