16-year-old shot in South Richmond has died - Tucson News Now

Police release name of 16-year-old killed in South Richmond

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond Police has released the identity of the teen shot on McRand Street Tuesday morning.

Robert Lee Fox, 16, was found in an alley in the 3600 block of McRand Street around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police say Fox was shot in the head. Fox was taken to VCU Medical Center where he later died that afternoon.

Police were on scene for several hours canvassing the area for evidence and during that time McRand Street was closed between 36th and 37th streets. When questioned about suspects, Richmond Police said "we believe we have who we need, but can't go into anymore detail."

For the last two years, Jamie Melms has lived on McRand Street, and for the first time, he and his family are really worried about their safety. That's because a 16-year-old young man was shot in front of his home.

"The police didn't tell me anything, they just said that someone got shot and were breaking in cars or something like that," Melms said.

Police have yet to confirm that information, but witnesses and neighbors say they did see a group of males breaking into cars on the same street where the shooting happened. It was in a back alley where police found the teens near a daycare center.

"Its has changed so much, everything in this area just has changed so much," Margaret Sherrod said.

Margaret Sherrod has lived in the area for over 40 years. She was surprised to hear about this shooting happening so close to her home.

"Everything being the way that it is I don't think its going to get back I just hope and pray that it won't get worse," Sherrod said.

Richmond Police emphasized they still need the public's help, and urged if anyone has information to call Crime Stoppers at (804)-780-1000.
